Sea of Rubber Duckies

Today is Mr. Sea's 40th birthday. He woke up to find THIS scene outside the front door:

Rubber duckies. All kinds, all styles. Zillions of them. All over the porch. All over the driveway. Floating in the birdbath. Stuck in potted plants. EVERYWHERE. There are even a couple on the roof. Mr. Sea is going to be finding rubber duckies in the yard for the rest of his life.

There are duckies that light up, duckies in beach balls, ninja duckies, devil duckies, ninja devil duckies ... My favorites are the "dead duckies" -- black plastic rubber duckies with white "x's" for eyes and tongues hanging out of their beaks.

Strange facts about rubber duckies:

1. The largest rubber ducky collection in the Guiness Book of World Records consisted of 1,437 unique rubber duckies. That is, no duplicates!

2. Queen Elizabeth II had a rubber ducky that wore an inflatible crown.

3. A listening technique known as "rubber ducking" involves just smiling and nodding when listening to someone describe a personal problem. This is to encourage the other person to come up with a solution on their own, by just talking about the dilemma.

4. Rubber duckies have been BANNED in the state of California, due to the plastic they're made of.

So, I guess Mr. Sea is now the proud owner of a yard full of California contraband.

SING IT, Ernie!
