I'm sure it will come as no surprise that Morticia Addams, played by Carolyn Jones, from The Addams Family television series (1964 - 1966), is one of my all-time favourite style icons. Morticia almost always wore the same iconic black dress with tentacled hemline, but her dark elegance transcended the lack of variety in her wardrobe.
Occasionally, we saw her in a negligee (black, of course), which served to further inflame the passions of her always enamoured and ever-attentive husband, Gomez. Also, in one episode, Morticia posed as a maid (this too proved irresistible to her husband) in a ruse intended to trick Lurch's mother into believing that Lurch was the master of the house, and that she and Gomez were the servants. She also had a special outfit for a brief foray into sculpting.
Mostly however, Morticia just accessorized with flair. She had sunglasses for evenings of moonbathing, wore lace head scarves when out visiting, and naturally, she always protected her delightfully deathly pallor with a black parasol.
