The Pear is uniquely found in all shapes, colors and sizes. It has a smooth waxy covering and grain like white flesh that is sweet in taste. The center o the pear is centered with seeds which is similar to that of the apple. It is similar to the apple but unlike the apple its skin is easier to remove or eat. The pear is bell-like shaped and it is smaller on top and larger on bottom. This is how the term "pear" shaped came to being in identifying the risk of hear disease in men and women. Those who are pear shaped have a less risk of developing heart disease versus those who are not. They are part of the Rose family and season is between August and October. When choosing pears at your local grocery store look for firm pear and if ripe. They suggest that if it is not ripe that you put in a paper bag the same thing people do with avocados.
